Our magazine "Welcome to Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai" doesn't usually indulge in blowing its own trumpet but this year is rather special so we thought Why Not? You see, this will be our last year as a teenager the month of November marks our 19th birthday so it is perhaps appropriate that we pause and give hearty thanks to the many people who make our magazine possible.
It's not just coincidence that "Welcome to Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai" was born at the time of Loy Krathong in 1986. The Loy Krathong Festival has often been described as Thailand's most beautiful and meaningful celebration. It is a festival of light, of public fireworks and millions of candle flames flickering and moving in gentle water currents. As each individual's krathong floats away, it is time to say goodbye to old regrets and to look forward to a brighter future. "Welcome to Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai" magazine came into this world as another tiny light and no one could foretell that it would blaze to become a friendly guiding light of knowledge and information to anyone seeking quality coverage of our glorious Northern Kingdom of Lanna-Thai.
From such beginnings our printed magazine developed until, as technology advanced, we entered the age of electronics and the Internet. "Welcome to Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai" took to the electronic media with enthusiasm; our web site www.chiangmai-chiangrai.com became our younger sibling with an outreach to the world. Hey World, here we are. The Kingdom of Lanna-Thai. Come read about us, come visit us. And so they did. Thousands, nay millions, of net-surfers have visited our web site (our record number of hits for a single week is 103,000 hits) and all are given a comprehensive preview of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and the Northern Thailand Experience. It's all there culture, people, food, arts & crafts, what to do (and not do), what to see and a host of options which only an up-to-date, homegrown media source can provide.
Side by side, our printed, monthly magazine and our electronic magazine carry the banner of the Kingdom of Lanna-Thai far and wide. Thousands of magazine copies (just like the one you are reading) are distributed monthly and FREE to all visitors. We, as Publishers and Editors, give Birthday Congratulations to all who have supported us from the first issue and grateful thanks to the many people who continue to assist us on a day to day basis. Like good theatre, a magazine's popularity depends upon its audience you, the reader. Thanks a million (and more) to our readers our visitors to Chiang Mai and to those overseas who link to our web site. Next, and every bit as importantly, we offer sincerest thanks to our advertisers who provide the life-blood for our magazine. Our success is also our advertiser's success and, as a quality magazine of long-standing, we support all of the excellent products, merchandise and services featured in our magazine. So a very big THANK YOU to our advertisers for the relationship we have shared over the years.
To the people who work with us what would we do without them? Our office staff, graphic artists, designers, writers, contributors, printers, distributors and everyone else who help meet (and beat!) deadlines every month to put the magazine to bed and onto the streets of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Finally, a note of thanks to our naughty rivals : Competition is healthy, we each have our own unique style and thrive upon it. "Welcome to Chiang Mai & Chiang Rai", in tandem with our web site www.chiangmai-chiangrai.com, is now in its 19th Year and is proud to be the quality magazine for all who are interested in visiting or learning more of our Kingdom of Lanna-Thai.
Thank you all for making it so.
