
Chiang Mai Red Cross Winter Fair

This annual fair is a large and splendid provincial event for much of the province's agricultural population. Entertainment galore, games and activities for children and grown -ups alike. Be sure to go fishing at the Red Cross Booth where hundreds of valuable prizes are given away every hour for lucky fishermen. Another big crowd pleaser is the Miss Chiangmai Beauty pageant held in the evening and nationally televised. This site of this year's fair is behind the Chiangmai Provincial Hall, Irrigation Canal Road (Rte.121).
Children's Day

Children and their parents are invited to various government agencies to enjoy and learn about the working activities. The activities cover demonstrations, contests, games, entertainment, food beverage, desserts, fruit and prizes. For full enjoyment, all parents should reduce their age to that of their children.
Armed Forces Day
January 18, 2007
Thai historians as well as the military agreed the day to honor ancestors will be the auspicious day when King Naresuan fought and declared independence from Burma. The date is January 18th (instead of the previous date of January 25th. Read the article on page 36 in this issue.) All units of the Thai Armed Forces in Chiang Mai will jointly participate during the activities at the Special Strategic Unit #5, Km 12-13, Chiang Mai Mae Rim Rd. (Rte 107). Memorial ceremony laying flower wreath, cannon fire, parade, tower jump, parachuting, dog show, equestrian, archery, demonstrations, contests, games food and door prizes. Noon until evening.
Borsarng Umbrella Festival

THE UMBRELLA FESTIVAL, one of the most popular annual festivals in Chiang Mai Province, is celebrated at Borsarng Village in the Sankampaeng District located 9 kms. from the inner city of Chiang Mai, or 7 kms. from the Superhighway intersection.
There are parades along the main street of the village each day of the festival. The biggest parade is on Friday, the opening day featuring traditional ancient bells, drums and Lanna musical instruments, ‘fingernail' and tribal dancers, processions of floats decorated with painted umbrellas, beauty contestants, Lanna costumes. See traditional offerings for monks, woodcarving contests plus fan and umbrella painting contests.
Walking Streets
Saturday and Sunday evenings
Walking Street is located near the Montri Hotel on to the Art & Cultural Center from the hours of 5.30 pm to 11 pm on both Saturday and Sunday evenings. Look forward to folk entertainment as well as shopping for handicrafts and handwoven textiles famous in this Province. Each Saturday, Wualai Road the former "Silver" and lacquerware area of Chiang Mai is walking street. A third walking street for used and second hand items at the northern block of Bumrungrasd Road between Prince Royal School and Payap Universities closing 5.00 pm.
Annual Flower Carnival
February 2-4, 2007
At the Buak Haad public park events begin early Friday at 8.00 a.m. The official opening ceremony take place at 5.00 pm. A cultural performance begins at 6.00 p.m. At 8.00 p.m. preliminary judging of contestants vying for the Flower Queen begins followed by performances of local music and dance.
The annual parade is held on the second day. Secure a viewing spot for the parade early as it is always crowded. At 8.00 a.m. the parade leaves the Railway Station moves west along Charoenmuang Rd., across to the Buak Haad public park. The crowning of the Flower Queen and the prize winners for the best floral floats will be announced at 2.00 pm. Performance of traditional music and dance beginning at 5.00 pm.
