Loy Krathong Program Activities
21 - 23 November, 1999

The main events of the Loy Krathong festival from Sunday 21 to Tuesday 23 November 1999 will be centered around Chiang Inn Plaza, the Municipal Office and the Ping River itself. While times are provisional, the major interesting activities are listed below.

The contests held by the municipality will stress safety and environmental awareness. The hot air balloons will be judged by materials used, color, size and flying characteristics, but the dangerous tail of fireworks beloved by the northern people will be prohibited. The giant Krathong contest will stress size, shape, appearance and brightness, as well as costume of those riding the floats. There will be 2 categories, those that can float and those which are for show only. Small Krathong will be divided into 2 classes. Those made from traditional natural materials and those made of recycled or biodegradable materials. Foam and other polluting materials are prohibited. There will be many other lesser events held in the vicinity of the Municipal Office and the Ping River which are not here listed.
